CYLINDER HEAD, REPLACE
Refer to Fig. 1, when replacing cylinder heads.
1.Relieve fuel pressure as outlined under "Precautions."
2.Drain engine coolant into suitable container.
3.Remove mounting bolts, then intake manifold and ignition coil covers.
4.Relieve tensioner by moving auto-tensioner and remove drive belt.
5.Remove power steering pump and hose bracket mounting bolt.
6.Remove harness clamp and bracket, then disconnect alternator connector and wire from alternator.
7.Remove mounting bolt bracket mounting bolt and alternator.
8.Remove intake manifold as outlined under "Intake Manifold, Replace."
9.Disconnect connector, then remove mounting bolts and ignition coils.
10.Remove timing belt.
11.Remove six injector connectors and wire harness clamps from cylinder head.
12.Remove Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT), Camshaft Position (CMP) and Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensors' connectors.
13.Remove Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and VTEC solenoid valve connectors, then VTEC oil pressure switch and oil pressure switch connectors.
14.Remove two Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensor and two secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor (secondary HO2S) connectors.
15.Remove upper and lower radiator hoses.
16.Remove heater and water bypass hoses.
17.Remove harness bracket mounting bolts.
18.Remove fuel feed hose, mounting and fuel rails.
19.Remove air conditioning compressor clutch connector from fan shroud and disconnect it.
20.Disconnect air conditioner condenser fan connector and remove wire harness clips from shroud.
21.Loosen lower mounting bolts and remove upper mounting bolts, then condenser fan shroud.
22.Disconnect front Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensor connector (Bank 2, Sensor 1) and front secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor (secondary HO2S) connector (Bank 2, Sensor 2), Fig. 2.
23.Remove mounting nuts and front (Bank 2) three-way catalytic converter (WU-TWC).
24.Disconnect rear A/F) sensor connector (Bank 1, Sensor 1) and rear secondary HO2S connector (Bank 1, Sensor 2), Fig. 3.
25.Remove mounting nuts, bracket and rear (Bank 1) WU-TWC.
26.Remove mounting bolts, nuts and water passage.
27.Remove front and rear camshaft pulleys, then and front and rear back covers.
28.Remove dipstick, then two harness holder mounting bolts and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose.
29.Remove power steering hose bracket and harness holder mounting bolts.
30.Remove harness clamps and breather hose.
31.Remove mounting bolts and valve cover.
32.Remove cylinder head bolts 1/3 turn at a time in sequence.
33.Remove cylinder head, Fig. 4.
34.Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a.Set timing belt drive pulley to Top Dead Center (TDC) by aligning timing belt drive pulley tooth TDC mark with oil pump pointer, Fig. 5.
b.Set camshaft pulleys to TDC by aligning camshaft pulleys' TDC marks with back covers' pointers, Figs. 6 and 7.
c.Torque cylinder head bolts to 19 ft. lbs., in sequence, Fig. 8.
d.Torque head bolts to 51 ft. lbs., in sequence.
e.Torque bolts to 72 ft. lbs., in sequence.

23.Remove mounting nuts and front (Bank 2) three-way catalytic converter (WU-TWC).
24.Disconnect rear A/F) sensor connector (Bank 1, Sensor 1) and rear secondary HO2S connector (Bank 1, Sensor 2), Fig. 3.
25.Remove mounting nuts, bracket and rear (Bank 1) WU-TWC.
26.Remove mounting bolts, nuts and water passage.
27.Remove front and rear camshaft pulleys, then and front and rear back covers.
